About the Liberty Hill Pro Rodeo
For over a decade, Liberty Hill Pro Rodeo (LHPR), previously known as the Liberty Hill Fair and Rodeo, has entertained the community with events that highlight the culture, grit, and perseverance of our western heritage. With integrity and true respect for the talented athletes that take to the arena, our annual rodeo and steer roping events provide a truly entertaining cultural experience as cowboys and cowgirls compete to win as they race against the clock for the title and grand prize.
History of the Ron Ross Memorial Legacy Steer Roping Event
Corey Ross was born in Casa Grande, Arizona, while his dad, Ron Ross, was working on the 26-Bar Ranch for John Wayne. This allowed him and his brothers to grow up living the cowboy lifestyle that many young boys dream about. In 1989, Corey’s real-life experience in the cowboy lifestyle paid off when he qualified for the College National Finals in the Team Roping events. Professional Rodeo has always been an important part of Corey’s life.
Corey Ross is the Pastor and Founder of Williamson County Cowboy Church. He is also a part of an event that honors his father, the Ron Ross Memorial Steer Roping, a huge fiver header steer roping that takes place every year in Liberty Hill, Texas. The steer roping is followed by the Liberty Hill Pro Rodeo the next weekend in May.
“He just raised us in a ranching family and he was one of those guys that never sugar coated anything. So, he was just a fantastic man that we get to now honor with the Ron Ross Memorial Steer Roping. Then to add a rodeo the next weekend there in Liberty Hill is a highlight, of course, for me because he’s my dad but it’s a highlight for our town as well because it still brings in the western lifestyle, the industry that is important to all of us, to carry it on,” Ross said.
